Remembering the world’s first love

As October dawns on us, one particular woman comes to my mind: Mary. I’ll never forget the place where I met her for the first time under the title of Mother of Perpetual Help.

My grandmother took me to this little shrine devoutly as a young teenager. Since then, Mary, faithful servant of Christ, Mother of the Incarnate Word, has a prime place in my heart.

She belongs to all of us. I’ll never forget experiencing her presence in Ephesus, Rome, and even the Philippines at my mother’s hometown:
