Sunday’s Gospel focuses on John 14:23-29. These are words of Jesus before his Passion and Resurrection event. There are three things I’d like to share:
- Love. Even before we can follow God’s commands, the premise is love of God. God is the root and source of our very existence. In Jesus, God invites us to respond to his love before we follow him. Communion with God comes first before mission.
- Advocate. Jesus promises that he will be with us in a new and closer way. With his apostles, Jesus was physically with them, walking and talking and eating with them. But for us, Jesus lives in us as we posses the advocation in Baptism and Eucharist.
- Peace. Jesus gives us the shalom that no one else can give. This is something the world longs for these days even if its people do not recognize it.
