Remembering the experience …

In his closing remarks, Archbishop Cordileone stated, “Today, we bury a legend.” Words never rung so true for a man who impacted the lives of so many people in San Francisco during his 50 years of ministry in the City by the Bay. I led the cross bearer and torches in the opening procession to welcome the body of Monsignor Bitanga. Looking around at the many faces and seeing his remains enter the Church, reality hit that the beloved Godfather was being laid to rest and we were going to the altar to give thanks for his life!

Indeed, I will miss him. He loved God’s people, he loved his priesthood, and he lived it in joy!
