Did you call?

We can’t forget that Sunday is more than obligation. To consider worship to Almighty God as exclusive obligation is to contain God within the rules and confinements of institutional religion. To stop there is to miss the point. To take it the next step further. Sunday and worship to Almighty God is invitation!

We hear today of how Amos was a shepherd and God called him to be a prophet. Saint Paul reminds us in today’s Epistle that God chose us even before the foundation of the cosmos! He destined us, loved us, and commissioned us from the very beginning.

And Jesus today called his followers two by two. Often I wondered, why not alone? He calls us into a family. The encounter and service to him is never an individual matter, it is always done within the framework of communal discipleship. As we all struggle to live out holiness in joy, we have each other to build each other up in the love and mercy of Jesus. Happy Sunday!
