Remembering Catherine

St CatherineLast Fall Semester, I took the course Women Doctors of the Church. Out of all the four women doctors, I remember Saint Catherine of Siena on her feast day. She writes in her Dialogue, “The soul cannot live without love. She always wants to love something because love is the stuff she is made of, and through love I [God] created her.”

Catherine reminds me that God desires us because he made us out of love, not necessity. Our memory, understanding, and will is informed by our sincere love for God as he is.
