The Cross of Jesus

Christ_at_the_Cross_-_Cristo_en_la_Cruz

Carl Bloch’s work of the Crucifixion Scene is perhaps the most serene work I have come to know. The cross of Jesus is the universal symbol of love. You do not have to be a Christian to know what it means. In it we find love that has gone to the depths to save us and to love us.

Today, we hear from the Lord Jesus that if we wish to follow him, we must take up our own cross in the manner in which he did. The cross is more than fashion around our neck. It is the very imitation of loving others to a higher calling, to love in the manner which Jesus continues to demonstrate.
