Grandma’s House

In the heart of the Inner Sunset District of San Francisco, one cannot help see the enormous pink Church along the N Judah Muni Line. It’s a parish of varied cultures which gathers for nine days to celebrate the novena to Good Saint Anne for over 100 years.

Redemptorist Priest, Father Ted, preaching during this year’s novena.

Now in it’s 107th year, we have the honor of praying with the Redemptorist Priests from the Denver Province. They focused on the Beatitudes according to Matthew (Matthew 5:3-12) as the ladder which all disciples must climb as they pursue their relationship with Jesus.

The Beatitudes speak of how we relate with God, others, and the price we pay to being Christian; this teaching is the portrait of the Teacher himself; it is the program and value system of all the saints.

Among the multitude of saints, today we honor Anne & Joachim, the grandparents of Jesus. They remind us of the very humanity of Jesus, the tenderness and importance of parents in the family system. Today, we commend all grandparents and parents to the protection of Saint Anne, who herself, protected the Lord Jesus in her own way.

Happy Feast Day to Good Saint Anne, the Grandmother of Jesus, who teaches us to follow him faithfully!
