The Cross

20140724-082145-30105673.jpgI’ve spent the novena days with a good friend in San Francisco. He’s a retired priest and the house is filled with many different religious images, but this one catches my attention. It has a great serenity in it, a peaceful state among our Lord, the Blessed Mother, and the Beloved Disciple.

It’s the route we must all take in following Jesus: the Cross. During his visit to the World Youth Day in Rio, Pope Francis reminded us that it is at the Cross where we encounter Jesus.

“What has the Cross left in each one of us? You see, it gives us a treasure that no one else can give: the certainty of the faithful love which God has for us. A love so great that it enters into our sin and forgives it, enters into our suffering and gives us the strength to bear it. It is a love which enters into death to conquer it and to save us.”
