Today we feast for tomorrow ….

All throughout the world today, and more popularly in New Orleans, the celebration of Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, is underway and reaches its height of festivities. It’s the day of feasting and debauchery, it’s carnival, for tomorrow we will fast and being the holy days of Lent.

Lent comes from the Anglo-Saxon word lencten, meaning spring. Winter is coming to a close and we are focused on more sunlight in our day and coming of new life in nature.

The same can be said about our lives. We are focused on who Jesus Christ is to us and in that renewal a new spring time will come. As we feast today and fast tomorrow, remember that we are pilgrims focused on the final destination, namely, to stand before the face of Jesus Christ.

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone!
