They ascended the mount … so must we

Since the 11th Century the Church in the West have celebrated the Transfiguration of the Lord on August 6. It is a story of the disciples witnessing the glory of Christ, the foreshadowing of his Ascension and the anticipation of sharing in heavenly glory.

Peter, John, and James went up a mountain and witnessed the Lord’s glory. They were with him and wanted to pitch their tents and not leave, to be with Jesus.

This upcoming weekend, young adults gather on the mount of our own lives. We call it the Upper Room Experience. There we will go to meet the LORD and be transformed …. not into anything of our own doing, but into the very image of God. Pray for us who make final preparations for this renewal and for those who will embark on this personal journey with Jesus.
