O Glorious Rome & Saints today!

I can’t believe that a year has passed on this Solemnity of Peter & Paul. The clip above is a reminder of my last day in Rome on this very feast day. Looking back brings about reflection, growth, and musing just a bunch of stuff in over a year’s time.

A year ago, I stood and lived within the walls of the Eternal City!

And now, a year later, I am standing and living at Home, another beautiful city, named after a wonderful saint: San Francisco! Pictured here yesterday with my buddy at Twin Peaks. photo

The hymn in Morning Prayer today gives a hint to my personal thoughts this morning, Founders of Rome, they bind the world in loyalty; One by the sword achieved, one by the cross his fate; With laurelled brows they hold eternal royalty.

Our faith is built on the command and promise of Jesus Christ and on the preaching and testimony of the great Peter & Paul. They were martyrs and prophets in their own day, in their own time, in particular world that faced particular situations.

In every generation, God has given us prophets to be his spokesperson and to speak the truth in charity. At times that can be a daunting and terrifying task! Friends have reminded me that it is honor to live and breath for no one else than Jesus Christ and above all the lives of Peter and Paul are inspiring!

May we work and live towards the crown of glory and to finish the race according to Saint Paul (2 Timothy 4:6-8, 17-18) and profess with all that we are, as Peter once professed (Matthew 16:13-19), that Jesus is the Christ.

Happy Solemnity of Peter & Paul.
