Goddaughter, Godson, and Easter

A great picture: Nico, my Godson and Jenn, my Goddaughter. Pictured at Mitchell’s Ice Cream in San Francisco waiting to enjoy a scoop or two on the Second Sunday of Easter. As I look back on my life, I realize that so many wonderful things occur during this Paschal Season. This one particularly striking as previous posts have spoken of the full initiation of Nico, Trixie, and Donmiguel as adult Catholics.

These words remind me of God’s love being more than something comfortable or average. Rather, it is a love that is total, complete, and overwhelmingly beautiful because God’s love is beauty itself – crucified love and an empty tomb – paschal joy! I can only take a step back and realize that Christ came for me, he came for Nico and Jenn, and he has come for all those who are still searching for him. So for us who have found him, who live and breath our lives with him and for him, there’s more to our story:

Our purpose is to allow Easter to continue to happen. We must “run” as the Beloved Disciple and Peter did those many years ago and tell the world, “Christ is risen!”

After all, his resurrection is more than an event. It’s a way of life – it is THEE way of life!
