Goodbye to a shepherd

I was a junior in High School when Father Leon Juchniewicz came to my family’s home parish. Through all these years, Father Leon has always been good to me. When I finally decided to respond to God’s invitation to study for the priesthood, Father Leon stood with me and cheered me on.

Ever since I began my journey to the priesthood, he has always expressed his support and prayers for me. Always concerned and willing to meet and pray for my vocation.

Now, God has called him to a new flock. He will soon begin a new ministry at Good Shepherd Parish in Elk Grove.

Today, we had our final meal together. It finally hit… I realized how much I will truly miss Father Leon. I will miss coming to Mary’s Chapel and celebrating the Mass with him. Yet, I find assurance in the fact that those who are united in Christ never see each other for the last time!

Thank you, Father Leon, for supporting my vocation through these years and I look forward to sharing in Christ’s priesthood with you in the years to come. May God enrich your life and ministry in the transitional months to come.
