Fighting the Fire

My grandmother taught me that whenever you hear the sirens of the firetruck we should pray to Saint Michael to be with them as they fight the fires.

Today, San Francisco Firefighters honor and bury two of their own: Lt. Vincent Perez, 48 and paramedic Anthony Valerio, 53. They will gather at Saint Mary of the Assumption Cathedral for the Rite of Christian Burial and will be joined by Firefighters across the nation. We pray for their souls, for the consolation of their families, and for all firefighters this day.

Perpetual light shine upon them, O Lord. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.  Amen.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host –
by the Divine Power of God –
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.
