Silent Witness

They say that many white collar jobs are very career oriented, power steered, and high paying. But one white collar job is just the opposite! We walked into Starbucks on the morning of the patronal solemnity of Saint Patrick. I greeted a lady on her way out with a “Happy Saint Patrick’s Day” because she was wearing green. She looked at us, smiled and went on her way.

As we stood in line, I noticed that she came back in the store. She pulled me aside and asked for prayers for her son who was heading into the hospital that morning. We stood there, in the middle of a Thursday morning coffee rush hour, and prayed for her son together. She was looking for the presence of God in the midst of the world. Dare we forget that whether its the collar, a rosary, or a crucifix that we bear on our neck….. it comes with no career orientated vision, power steering agenda, or a high paying profit. The only thing entitled with bearing the name Christian is the cross where true absolute love is found. It was a morning at Starbucks that I’ll never forget.
